#1 Rozenblit - Transcendent Amps

Unread post by Ray P »

I've just received the latest, and probably final, Transcendent newsletter from Bruce Rozenblit - he's winding down and will no longer be selling complete kits but instead will be just supply part kits, without the heavy stuff like chassis and transformers. He's also made PDFs of his build manuals available on his website, not FoC, but still a useful resource.

I've just downloaded the one for the Evermore - 2 monoblocks with 8 EL34's per side.

I've had the Beasts on the shelf since the 300B amps went live - with EL509's now costing £55 a pop from HotRox, that means they now have a retubing cost of £1320  And I didn't even build it with all 16 output valves per side (due to space constraints).

That and the amount of heat output / electricity usage, they're just not viable these days with energy prices now being much higher than when I built them originally. But I put an awful lot of time, effort and a fair amount of money into designing and engineering the chassis they were built into. I really like the look of them, the design was originally inspired by the Atmasphere OTL amps.

So the plan is to build the Evermore circuit into the chassis, adding another quad of EL34's on the output stage each side to increase the power and reduce the output impedance a bit. Should be good for about 12W per channel or so. The existing Beast transformers have the right voltage ratings to be re-used, which means the cost of rebuilding shouldn't be too much.
