Wanted. 2m of decent hook-up wire
#1 Wanted. 2m of decent hook-up wire
Hi all
wonder if anyone can sell me 2m of hook-up wire for the innards of a valve amp. Stranded OFC copper, ie not tinned, is my preference. It's proving hard to find on the high st or without paying £9.99 (!) postage. Will pay for the wire and p&P.
Thanks
Adrian

Did you get this? If not I have a 1000ft reel of 24 AWG aircraft PTFE hookup wire - you are welcome to a couple of metres FOC + p&p.
https://www.alphawire.com/products/wire ... mium/7130/
https://uk.farnell.com/alpha-wire/7130- ... dp/1743529
It's white, tin plated, Mil spec: MIL-W-16878E Type C, rated for -55C to +105C & 600V peak/300V working (though as it matches the MIL spec and that's 1000V, it's certainly better than 600V). Very low self-inductance at 0.07 μH/ft.

Sfunny thing but I offered Adrian as much as he needed oxygen free silver plated copper wire (probably from Los Alamos or some such-) but he didnt get back to me - ages ago.

Well if you chaps have any to spare I'd be interested in buying some. I seem to get through lots more of the stuff than I expect.

D'oh! Thanks chaps, but somehow I'd read coax/screened. I must be losing it. (Comments about never having are not required, even if there's some truth!)

How much co-ax do you actually need Simon ?

I keep buying 10m lengths and don't expect to use it. I should buy a reel and stop being silly/tight.

How much do you need for this job ?
I have some SC-Tricone mk 2 made by Sommer. (Germany) It's green. Hiflex OFC.
I bought it to make some interconnects, but I could spare a couple of feet.

Thanks Phil, but I need a good few meters really. I should have bought a reel years ago.

There's 100s of types of coax all with different characteristics (most of which have no discernable effect at audio frequencies *). What are you after? I have reels of various types, some ordinary, some very exotic stuff like genuine RG-316/U and RG178/U - for totally bonkers , try RG-402/U (about £10/ft). The exotics are expensive and difficult to work with (special tools for termination), but do look cool and have a pretty flat response up to 18GHz...

Just a screened cable for signal hookup really. Nothing fat and chunky, just to connect phonos to volume pots and the like.
