Wow, just tried to solder the Spartan. Brutal.
I think i might be able to recover it, got a bent pin but managed to bend it back with a sewing needle under microscope. This is just madness, come back 300b all is forgiven!

Well, I managed to complete the PCM->DSD board and unbelievably it actually works!
Some really tiny stuff to solder here!
I am feeding the DSD DAC from it and using the Amanero clone to send both PCM and DSD to it. The converter will pass DSD straight through.
I am comparing files (FLACs from CD) converted using dBPowerAmp with the orginal FLAC. (However perhaps I should convert the FLACs also to WAV to make the contest fairer?)
Too early to make a judgement...

Oo-er, what's that bottom right, Mr. Blobby the solder blob?

It's the avatar of the board designer Mike, on the silkscreen.
Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Good job Tony and good to have another DSD advocate here.

Well, Dilemma over, I tried the old DAC and it didn't work so all things considered I decided to retire it in favour of the RTZ DAC.
I can't believe how much stuff I'd packed into that case!
All that came out! Pedja Rogic DAC, Hawk Audio class A buffer board, Tent Labs clock, Squeezebox Receiver, many power supplies...
And the almost empty case
End of an era but once I've hoovered the fluff out of it there is plenty of space for the RTZ DAC, power supplies and Lundahl line transformers...
Watch this space!

"SCAD"ed design of the fit and 3d printed parts to act as mounts:
I have the small pcb now to make good the connection from SB Receiver to the PCM2DSD board.
3d parts printing, hopefully I can get this all to fit in the case/ Looking good so far. (ps before anyone comments, yes, the soldering on that connector looks dire! Most of the pins not used, however I will go back over it for good measure!)

It does have the look of 70's university building architecture:-).

Some tidying up to do but it's in the case, working and sounding great!
My friend is going to lasercut a piece of acrylic for me to cover up the existing engraving on the front panel as now that is no longer valid.

Good stuff Tony. I'm planning to get back on my own build after Easter.
Sorry, I couldn't resist!
