That's interesting, I read some fairly polarized views on silver mica in RIAA yesterday. I have some smaller versions of the Russian type in your link.
Polarised opinions? In the DIY audio game of ours? Blimey, how about that ;)

I like them. They're available in 1% or less tolerance at 500v or so. I haven't revisited my choice in the last 20 years. Maybe that's my problem? Maybe they've aged poorly and I don't know it. Anything is possible.

:D perhaps as polarized as I've ever read in audio. Essentially they're the work of the devil and completely break the sound. Or they don't.

I'm probably kidding myself here but perhaps if you have the model to hand Andrew I could have a play and see if I can navigate Spice?

You'll need to configure LTSpice to include the correct valve models for this to work, Simon.

Most of what you'll need is document in 'Stacks' on here, I think?

But keeping it all easy, you can put 'pentode.asy' and the inverse RIAA in the location "C:\LTspiceIV\lib\sym\Misc", then follow the Stack instructions on including the triode stuff and it should work.

It uses different valves in the Aikido, but that shouldn't be a problem for a man of your talents :)

Right, thanks Andrew. Deep breath, let's see if I can make any sense of it.

OK, quick update, putting the RIAA in the same folder as your main .asc file works.

I am looking for the xpentode4 model, think I gave you a generic pentode.

You might need to fix up the wiring between the iRIAA and the circuit, but it works :)

Well this doesn't bode well, I've failed at the first chuffin hurdle - I can't get the inverse RIAA to load. I've copied it to the top level below the LTspice folder, to the lib folder below and the sym folder below that but no joy.

When I open C3g_aikido.asc it tries to load the inverse RIAA but I get this error message:
Cant find symbol.png

After clicking okay the C3g phono circuit loads without the inverse RIAA. If I open the inverse RIAA it looks to open fine.

Stick the inverse RIAA in the same folder as C3g_aikido.asc :thumbright:

It is. And every other folder that looks like it might be appropriate. Still no joy.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of times but that didn't work. There was something odd though, even though it was uninstalled the files were still on the hard drive and when I reinstalled it remembered my config of where I'd pointed the lib and sym folders to.

Looking in the asc file its in the Misc directory

SYMBOL Misc\\passive_inverse_riaa -704 944 R0

Which looks to be the same place its loading the pentode models from

SYMBOL Misc\\xpentode4 -176 912 R0

Don't know if that helps.

Thanks but no. It seems to be finding the xpentode4 model and everywhere I've copied the xpentode4 model to I've also copied the inverse_RIAA model. Odd
