I may be wrong but I think its more likely the elderly retired middle managers with too much time on their hands and no one to manage anymore.

The chairman was (still is part time) a lorry driver.

Hardly any retired middle managers.

The rot started when the club captain died (self employed accountant) and the treasurer (retired bank manager) and chairman (retired police officer) left the club.
