#1 Hifi components you've always wanted to try

Post by Ant »

Was having a conversation with someone along these lines and thought it was interesting

Ive always wanted to try an oracle delphi turntable, i just love how they look and how the design seems to have only what it needs in order to work. Might be disappointed on listening, i dunno, but id still like a go with one

And a trio lo7d

Id like to try nicks p6 amps at home but thats a pipe dream i could not afford :D just have to listen at owston

Id also like to try some of the meridian active speakers

Perhaps ill get lucky on the lottery one day

Its nice to daydream, and i did get the jbe which id wanted for years, so perhaps these things arent all that far fetched

I have a delphi mk 2 it has my 2nd frs64s on it sounds very nice
The tube manual is quite like a telephone book. The number of it perfect. It is useful to make it possible to speak with a girl. But we can't see her beautiful face from the telephone number

My teenage dream system was Gale GT2101, Lecson AC1/AP3 and Gale GS401As.

To 21st century ears it would probably sound crap, but I’d love to know.

Just need to decide on an arm and cartridge. The GT2101 was usually shown with an SME3009, but that always seemed a bit mundane in that company. Maybe a Transcrptors Fluid and an ADC XLM just to complete the 70’stasticness.

I had a longstanding lust for the big Denon monoblock amps, the POA-6600 from memory, and the newest and biggest Quad electrostatic speakers.

These days I'd like a pair of Nicks original monoblock amps (the BIG ones) to go with the Quads.

If you can cut and polish Perspex then why not? You could flog it to Nick to go with his Perspex Quasars.

Although it looks gorgeous (to me at least), I’m not sure the idea of supporting the record on three points works very well in practice.

Exclusive wasn’t the word! I think they only made about 20. Never saw one in the flesh anywhere.

This was interesting:

Grimm LS1 speakers - heard them a few times at shows, but would like to hear then at home on real music. To me getting back a simple system without compromising on SQ is the ultimate goal.

Dom Harper's massive Tannoy speakers - they were exquisite. Probably the one speaker I'd exchange the Mets for, if I had the space and the budget.
Deck: Garrard 301 - Audio Origami PU7 - NW Analogue DH3S
Phono: Pete Millett LR, Lundahl SUT, AMB σ22 PSU
Linestage: Bruno Putzeys Balanced Pre + Hans Polak relay mod, LCDuino control
Power amps: 300B PP 'Symmetric Reichert'
Speakers: FF225WK Big Mets

I really enjoyed Steve's horns at the last Owston, since then I've been reading up on ways to improve horns
I've got a feeling I may be revisiting them in the near future
