I'll be bringing these to Owston, so I thought it a good idea to post them here
Typical Ikea salad bowl speakers with Visaton FRS8M full range speakers
Equalised quite heavily in the bass, and the odd tweak here and there to flatten them out
Flat in room to 50Hz which isn't bad Cheers,

I still use mine, currently in the project studio hooked up to F6. Mine are TB1612.
looking forward to hearing them, so far nobody else in our gang has bothered with these. Imo they're awesome.

Not sure how they will cope in a big room, but I'm hopeful if I don't turn it up too loud

Did you line or stuff yours?
I haven't yet, just made them non-spherical inside with some plumber's mait type stuff

It's a long time ago and memory is a bit vague, but as far as I can remember they were well received in the small room at eggborough.
Mine are not stuffed but I chose the TBs based on the sphere volume and they go plenty loud. I imagine they will be a bit louder than yours as the drivers are slightly bigger... but theres only one way to find out.

Unfortunately I haven't got clio running on this new machine yet so I can't print any of the mls graphs, and this is the only jpeg I could find. They do sound a whole lot better than this plot suggests. Some of the other mls file names suggest I was experimenting with positioning so there maybe much better plots.

If you've got flat to 50 hz then I reckon that's a result.

The only graph I could find just now is more smoothed than yours, and it's 50Hz in room - our living room has strong resonance at 50Hz, so hardly need anything there
Top line is fundamental and the others are distortion components
The 70Hz peak in distortion is trying to equalise a null from the bay window. Must remember to take that out for Owston

Unsupervised toddler meet speakers - oh dear, both domes pushed in and one coil is rubbing, though the rubbing might be due to SPL abuse
Trying Dayton ND90-4 and sound promising so far. Need less EQ than the Visatons, mainly boost above 10kHz
Chose the 4 ohm as it opens up more choices of amp further down the line

I think I mentioned at Owston that I thought yours looked a bit smaller than how I remembered mine. I just had a look on the ikea site and it seems they do 2 sizes of the bowl....I just measured mine and they are the big ones.

anyways, I've just found the mls files and I've now got clio on the new machine so here's what they looked like in free space...very slightly different between 100 and 200hz, otherwise much the same.

I still have four of the larger Ikea salad bowls in the garage. Any suggestions for some cheap(ish) full-range units to use with them? Reasonably efficient as I would probably use them with a Pass ACA (about 8-10WPC).

exerpt from my notes for the ikea build....please note it was 2010 and there may be much better contenders out there now. My criteria was box volume to get a Butterworth alignment....

Ray, if you want efficiency avoid the Dayton ND90-4 as it is 85.7 dB @ 2.83V/1m or 82.7 dB @ 1W in real money
Interesting driver though as it has 20mm of excursion peak to peak

Point to bear in mind with the salad bowls is that they are not necessarily hemispherical nor perfectly identically circular at the rim. You may need a sandwich filling but you can hide any ports etc there. This is me going back more than 10 years to my blanda build; still in use as computer speakers.
