#1 Cars / Bikes I've had that are worth remembering.

Post by pre65 »

Many years ago I purchased a fire damaged TRV Griffiths 400 from Queenborough Road Garage with the intent of restoring it.

I also purchased a TVR 1800s to use as a donor for the body.

After a lot of work it became apparent that the Griffiths chassis was twisted, so I modified the 1800s chassis to Griffiths spec using the original chassis as a pattern for the engine and diff mounting points.

During this time a chap had been phoning me regularly, asking to buy the project, and eventually the offer he made was accepted. About £5K from memory, which at the time seemed a lot of dosh.

Today I saw a brief YouTube video of the car as it is now, reg DRT643C.

Not very good images of the TVR the day I got it.

Yes indeed Greg.

More impressive was the 271 BHP Ford 289 (4761cc) V8 engine. :)

300 bhp/tonne in a wheelbase not much longer than the track is wide.

Should be fun…
The world looks so different after learning science. For example, trees are made of air, primarily. When they are burned, they go back to air, and in their flaming heat is released the flaming heat of the Sun which was bound in to convert air into tree.

Pity I never got to drive it.

The Sunbeam Tiger I had (260 cu in V8 4261cc) was "only" 160 bhp but also short wheelbase and much fun on wet and/or greasy roads, especially roundabouts.

Of course, if I had one now, I'd drive more responsibly.

The Audi Quattro turbo coupe I had was awesome on wet roundabouts 'cos you could get the back out quite a lot but being 4WD the front kept the forward motion going. Magic. :)

I thought it might be the XJ6 you had, but it's a Puch. :)

According to the recall history the seat had a fault that changed the riders perception on what constitutes good music. There is no cure.

Grey? It was "Lachs Silver"!

I had that car from just a few months old - it was owned for a few months by one of the Stewart family (as in Jackie) who bought it down to Kent for me on the overnight train from Aberdeen to London, then drove it to my office in Tunbridge Wells.

I loved that car - it was an original LHD E30 homologation series vehicle - one of only 500 made. Absolutely beauty and was Top Gear's car of the decade. Mine was chipped back to its track specification of around 300bhp (I can't remember exactly).

Sold it in around '93. Still miss it.

Low mileage restored ones sell for about £100k, sometimes a lot more.

I sold mine for about £19k. Last MOT was around 2009 at about 150,000 miles - lots of advisories around rust, so it sounds like it wasn't looked after unfortunately. It was immaculate when I had it - maintained by L&C in TW - Tim Hignot, who owned L&C had a nearly identical E30 M3 as well as TWO M1s.

^^^Oooh ya brute!

Yup, a silver Puch Maxi moped. My 1st legal on-the-road vehicle, I shared it with my Mum! Rock n Roll lifestyle :)

The Jag was HAY 941V. Its dead :( I knew the 2 owners who had it after me, last time I saw the car it was just rotting away into a big pile of metallic BRG dust.
