#1 Worst recording ever ?
Spurred on by the universal hatred of Des O'Connor and Dik a dum dum I wondered what (if any) recordings were considered more crap ?
My first contender is one our Neal brought to Owston a few years ago. I can't tell you the details but it was spoken in the main. Others might remember it ?

I think you're going to have to specify what you mean by worst recording ever Phil.
The worst actual tape 'recording' I've ever heard was done by myself, aged about 13, trying to bootleg a concert from the TV
Artistically 'worse recordings', well. Jefferson Starship 'We Built this City' and the J Geils Band 'Centrefold' are pretty high on my own list, far higher than even Genesis or Des!
Worst mix is still '...and Justice for all' by Metallica IMO.

Bon Jovi Slippery when wet is pretty crap as far as recording quality goes.

FWIW, I really like that track, the bass groove and sound is superb (IMO). I've never heard anything else by them.pre65 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 01, 2022 6:47 pmThat's the very one Steve, thanks.Cressy Snr wrote: ↑Sat Jan 01, 2022 6:27 pmThe Colorblind James Experience - Considering a Move to Memphis?

I like it too. A great groove and the lyrics are rather clever. I’ve a soft spot for They Might Be Giants too - same attitude and same witty songwriting.

I think I can do worser than that Dave - recording the Sunday evening pop chart from a transistor radio onto a dreadful 'Binatone' mono, portable cassette recorder (with the microphone that came with it) and all the while the family were in the same room having Sunday tea.Dave the bass wrote: ↑Sat Jan 01, 2022 6:23 pm The worst actual tape 'recording' I've ever heard was done by myself, aged about 13, trying to bootleg a concert from the TV

For absence of artisitic merit this one has to be near the top of the list

Ooh, I had a similar recording set up. I had a Prinzsound cassette recorder (with ALC) and mic. I thought I'd be clever and connect a (homemade) lead from the headphone/ext. speaker output of the TV to the mic. in socket.Ray P wrote: ↑Sat Jan 01, 2022 11:13 pm I think I can do worser than that Dave - recording the Sunday evening pop chart from a transistor radio onto a dreadful 'Binatone' mono, portable cassette recorder (with the microphone that came with it) and all the while the family were in the same room having Sunday tea.

In the early 70s armed with a Sanyo cassette recorder and mic, me and my mate Garry, used to put our own voices onto early Beatles records, by swinging the balance control to the instrument side of the sound stage, sticking a mic against that speaker, then singing along to them with our own vocals. We couldn’t sing for toffee but it worked. It ended up as us, with the Beatles as our backing band. I dread to think what the sound quality was like.
We also used to turn ourselves into an audience by using two cassette tape recorders and two tapes to bounce our handclap recordings between. You could do it about half a dozen times before the hiss became a big problem. Hideous quality but great fun.

Beefheart's 'The Spotlight Kid'.
