Been listening to them for many a year (think it must of been '76 when I first took notice)
Liked nearly everything they have done since (even after the many 'splits')

Have seen them twice - first time around 15 years ago and the second, no intention of seeing them again but my sister paid for the tickets, last year)

Enjoyed both concerts.
I know they are not the same as 40 years ago but I enjoyed what I heard so all good. I am not a music snob and never have been as I can listen to and appreciate most musical styles and genres of which Genesis have traversed many :)

Your the sort of person who barges open a church door and shouts ‘ gods a fuckin fiction
Happy to accept that description of myself.
I concur but I'm not sure I would be brave enough; you would probably end up on some sort of 'hate crime' crime charge nowadays.

Yep, thank goodness! The world would be a less interesting point if we weren't.

Just like I have done regarding Genesis, occasionally some on here rave about bands, Frank Zappa springs to mind, so I try to be open and give them a listen - sometimes it's a good find but often I just don't get them.

As said previously I don't know Genesis.

Sorting through Jeans CDs I came across "we can't dance" and also Phil Collins "hits".

So, after I've re assembled my system (after Owston) I'll give them a play.

I gave "we can't dance" a preview on my laptop in the end, can't say any tracks were to my taste.

I really wanted to like "driving the last spike" because of what it describes, but not to be.

This is a pretty good representation of the essential Gabriel-era Genesis. If you like this, Phil, I’d be very surprised and I know it’ll make Dave’s toes curl, but some will love it as much as I do.

The world looks so different after learning science. For example, trees are made of air, primarily. When they are burned, they go back to air, and in their flaming heat is released the flaming heat of the Sun which was bound in to convert air into tree.

I would see a person shouting gods a fiction as mean and spiteful unwilling to let people enjoy a harmless passtime and yet some of you accept the description ?

Steve Hackett left Genesis cause he wasn’t given enough songwriting . Made mediocre albums and now earns his money doing a poor fascimilie of Genesis . You’d be better of seeing a tribute band

Harmless?

Harmless squared????

I suppose though this thread has some merit ( for me) in that we're talking likes and dislikes and even though we've only re- established that it is ' each to one's own' and couldn't really be otherwise just like e.g. religion, Manchester City or Fender or Mercs rather than Beamers or whether it is right and proper to eat our boiled eggs pointy ir round end up!

What I'd like to consider us why we actually listen to music in the first place!?
Philosophers have only interpreted the world - the point, however, is to change it. No it isn't ... maybe we should leave it alone for a while.

Ooh, isn't that a bit 'mean and spiteful unwilling to let people enjoy a harmless passtime and yet'... :)

So, eleven different analytic categories. Assuming 10 points max for each category how many would you score Des O'Connor with Dick a dum dum ? (negative numbers not allowed)

I take your point about religion.

But people getting together on a Sunday in the name of c of e is fairly benign .

It's most magnanimous for you to say that. :)
