Denon direct drive turntable, not certain which one. Wilson Benesch cartridge. LDA MCj3 Phono stage, Music First Audio transformer volume control. Transcendent Sound Son of Beast OTL. Work in progress speakers based on James's Quasar's. Supravox 285 GMF, Lowther Silver wound PM6A and Caire CT440 tweeter.

Also Chris's Crown amp and speakers that if he sends me some text I will add here about.

Many thanks to Steve for setting this all up once again and for the use of his wonderful speakers to demo my "slightly modded" Logitech Transporter  and Douglas Self amp.

I took some sneaky 360 photos at the start of proceedings and I'll try and see if this works embedded...Apparently not so here are the links...

Photo #15- Nick’s prototype Lowther based Quasars were ‘most excellent’ to quote Bill and Ted. I was impressed with their neutrality and ability to play anything that was thrown at them, throughout the day. They have the sort of sound I like, have gone after for years and have, with one or two caveats, succeeded in finding. Those speakers have that extra degree of solidity and treble refinement mine don’t have.
They’re far too big for my tiny front room, but if I could accommodate such a speaker, they’d do me long term. I wouldn’t be looking for anything else.

Though I can by no means be described as a rocker, it was a Metallica track during the demo, that impressed me the most. Taut, powerful bass, gritty, snarly guitars and vocals and not a hint of any that bullshit, ear shredding ‘aren’t I impressive’ nonsense. The power of the band’s sound came through loud and clear. Great stuff.

Nick - can you go back and edit in the details into Mike's photo post as and when they become available - it'd be really useful!

Pretty please?

FWIW, though it'd been great to do a 9+ hour round trip to see what was happening in Owston, seeing the first grandchild for the first time was awesome... (and a lot closer to home).

Really enjoyed the Saturday, I have to say there wasn't a crap sounding system to be heard, all sounded very good indeed.

Hats off to everyone who made it. Thanks to Steve for sorting it out.

June 2022 next one? LOL

Yep, if people want to send me details and what post to add them I can do that.

Nick, a question about your Quasars - were the tweeters that were screwed to/dangling from the baffles in use? I didn't get close enough to check while they were playing and didn't look when they weren't!

BTW, these are the drive units that I mentioned to you - I've got a pair of the 8inch ones that I got a very good deal on. I've got the specs here somewhere.

There's a field coil upgrade too

Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Those drivers look nice.

Yes the tweeter was coming in at around 6k I believe. Though later we tried the lowther without its series inductor. It sounded less shouty than when I first tried it but the drivers have a few more hours on them now. We then tried a smaller inductor and I think it filled a gap in the upper mids low treble. Will do measurements when the acrylic arrives and get closer to a final set of components.

Thanks again Steve for organising the event.
First time I've been out for an overnight stay since lockdown, and it was well worth it.

Also thanks to all the "exhibitors" for making the effort to transport their creations to the event.
Amplifiers from 4KVA to 1W, I wonder how we affected the pubs electricity usage.

Trip back was much better than going, about 3 hours with no holdups on the M1, although it was busy.

Cheers
