In Hanoi there's an amazing 'monument' to the war. In the middle of the old and beautiful city is a lake; Lots of ice cream cafes and promenade sort of stuff around. At one end of the lake the Vietnamese have left the tail end of a B52 sticking up towards the sky, from whence it fell.
Throughout the city are old soviet tanks and a museum full of migs, a couple of Hueys and other US planes. They are very deliberately letting all this horrific war junk rot and rust. The climate in Vietnam helps with thd process but it is an interesting attitude eh!?

It came as a surprise, though with a moments thought it makes sense to find out that they refer to it as the American War.

Great use of jigs.
Small point. I don’t think he was working with green oak. That oak was seasoned. It might have been an old oak he’d processed a year or so before, but green oak looks and machines very differently to that shown, so I think he was not working on the original tree he is seen planking.
Additionally, making a bench like that out of green oaks would be bonkers - oak shrinks by 5-10% as it dries, plus it "moves", i.e. twists and bends. In a year or so that bench would be a mess.

Same thing occurred to me, i like to use green oak for turning, the way it warps as it dries out and seasons when you do bowls with it is lovely
Havent been able to get any for a while though, last lot i got was from a bloke down the road who had to have a damaged tree taken down after a storm a few years ago. Ive got some silver birch logs that have been sat in the shed since february from down by the nearby railway lines when network rail chopped practically everything down, they chucked a load over the fence for me when i asked which was nice of them
I just presumed that bit planking with the chainsaw was shown to show how that timber was originally processed.
Wish my hitachi would take big cuts like the aeg router he uses does, its not as pokey as that thing
Wish i had space for a dog bench too

The chainsaw milling of the timber, looked too easy. When I tried to cut a scotch pine tree at the in-laws a decade or so ago into beams, it wasn’t easy, we ended up with a borrowed bandsaw mill, and even then had to chock the kerf to stop it binding on the blade, so the kick back off a bandsaw if it caught would be scary.
Some of those routing jigs - reminded me of the Wood Rat, jig thingy I have - but haven’t used in ages that can do allsorts of joints.

Being fair, Scots Pine is incredibly resinous and horrible to machine - it clogs everything.

A group of urban explorers effect unauthorised entry to a decommissioned Eggborough power station one dark night, and film from inside the following morning.
