Now I want to know what it's like with proper decent passives, kosher gapped TX's and a better sound source! (AM portable? Really?)

Doubt if you will have anything close to stereo. The valves will be far from matched, and I doubt a better transformer would make up for running the valves close to 0v bias with a coupling cap. It would have been very interesting to get some characteristic curves for the valves though. Very interesting none the less and clearly more effort has been put into making the valves than the rest of the project.
Little known fact, coherent thought can destructively interfere with itself leaving no thought at all, that’s why I prefer incoherent thought.
