Classic film!

Didn't he call his butler "Scrotum" because he was his wrinkled old retainer?

"Scrotum, the wrinkled retainer" was the exact quote if I remember. As always the original radio and then LP was IMHO far better than the film as to me the joy of it was its (his) use of language. That gets a bit lost in the film.

Have we done this one? London to Bath in a MK II Jaguar, 1963, advanced motorist George Eyles driving (ex-met police, IAM). Not sure about the flashing and hooting on the motorway, to make the car in front move out of the way! Don't think that'd go down well today. He gets the 'V' sign...

I thought this collection brought home the reality of these races a bit better than the mainstream TV footage :

A not entirely non-music related blast from the past. Actually quite impressed by the guitar playing talents of James Burke.

Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Nice video. What I found very shocking was apart from the side member just how few triangles there were in that. A 917 frame by comparison.

Yeah that was amazing really.

I don't know how accurate the sub chassis was, presumably very, but the central beam is doing a lot of the work. It will require a lot of strength in the fixings to the axles though, and the floorpan (or whatever was in place to the sides of the central beam) would be prone to buckling unless carefully considered.

There are some real benefits of a true space frame over main central beam approach though.
