Tesla founder Elon Musk has announced technology that he says will make Tesla batteries cheaper and more powerful.
At a live presentation that Mr Musk labelled 'Battery Day' he also teased the possibility of a $25,000 (£19,600), fully-autonomous Tesla "in about three years time".

Not to mention the Model S Plaid. (I really hope the rather odd name doesn’t refer to the seat material).

1100bhp, 200+ mph, 0-60 in under 2 seconds, 500 mile range(!!!!) coming in 2022.

Really? Hmmm, just in time for my 70th.

The prototype lapped Laguna Seca in 1:30.3. To put that in perspective, the current production car lap record is 1:27.62, held by a McLaren Senna. Not bad for a big four door saloon.

Just goes to show that it’s all about the batteries. Once they’re available, designing ultra-powerful cars will no longer be the exclusive province of ultra-exotic manufacturers. Who’s going to need a quad-cam four-turbo W16 costing half a gazillion quid when you can get 1100 BHP from a couple of baked bean tins?

Pedant mode on.

There’s no such thing as a zero emissions vehicle.

Pedant mode off

me, because a quad cam many turboed w16 is to me an engineering masterpiece :D and it makes the most glorious noise
But then im the kind of person who wants one of those v8 engine block coffee tables just to look at.
But the tesla and its ilk are the future, and thats a very good thing

I suggest in comparison, the Tesla is the greater engineering masterpiece. Far less moving parts, hardly any noise, a single speed gearbox, with reverse thrown in for good measure.

But I’m biased..........I collect my new Tesla Model 3 Long Range at 2pm tomorrow :D :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Yes, looking forward to it.

I forgot to say, servicing consists mainly of topping up the screen wash :D

No, not yet but not a problem. You tell the car what the journey is and it tells you where to pick up a supercharge on route. Only a top up needed for that return journey which will be done before you have time for a coffee, iced bun and a piss

If or when electric cars become mainstream imagine the queue at the charging points.
at motorway services each car parking space would need to be a charging point ? or you could spend all your bank holiday waiting in the queue for a charge to get home... then everybody who is charging would go in for a cuppa.. motorway services will be a real goldmine?

Then all you need is the main fuse to blow and everyone's stuck! Just like caravan sites do now for powering your van. Get back to your car and its still flat !

Yep, that would work. No reason why not. Likewise most other car parks.

Not a problem. Tesla superchargers are by Tesla for Tesla only. If it all goes horribly wrong, Tesla Care (a free service) come out and rescue you.
