Me too, but then again I did say “who needs”, not “who wants”! In fact, rather than a quad turbo W16, it’s the astonishing motor created by Cosworth for Gordon Murray’s T50 that sets my pulse racing. Possibly the last great normally aspirated IC engine. I can’t imagine anyone will do another one.

The world looks so different after learning science. For example, trees are made of air, primarily. When they are burned, they go back to air, and in their flaming heat is released the flaming heat of the Sun which was bound in to convert air into tree.

We went for a walk around Saffron Walden yesterday, and spied a Tesla model X with it's falcon doors opening, like gullwing but hinged.

Quite impressive.

I see a future for eCars BUT lithium is a real issue: mining like coal, limited quantities under the ground. The biggest issue that I see is building the infrastructure for charging. We will have to tear up city streets everywhere as short charging times and lots of vehicles mean lots of power that our current grid cannot support.

Hydrogen - like for fuel cells is no where near as intrusive BUT who wants a hydrogen tank next door?

Smart chargers that also let the batteries become part of the grid for storage sound like a great idea until we consider that the energy companies get access to our travel habits.

e mobility is something very novel to our times. It certainly does leverage the current advantages of subsidised electrical power. As the amount of eCars increase, there will be competition for available power and I am very interested to see what happens at peak demand times like in the evening when people eat, wash clothes, turn their full class A stereo system on...

The ultimate question had to be, can we survive as a species, long enough to develop teleporters?

It's high time the ants, cockroaches and their like had their Day. We have lasted only a small fraction of the dinosaur era and they're supposed to be the losers.
Philosophers have only interpreted the world - the point, however, is to change it. No it isn't ... maybe we should leave it alone for a while.

I suggest in comparison, the Tesla is the greater engineering masterpiece. Far less moving parts, hardly any noise, a single speed gearbox, with reverse thrown in for good measure.

But I’m biased..........I collect my new Tesla Model 3 Long Range at 2pm tomorrow :D :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Very interesting article about the reality of electric cars vs emissions

There was always going to be ambiguity and marketing around just how green electric cars are but even if they're not quite as green as some would have us believe at least their carbon footprint is more focussed into places like power stations, rather than spread around like with fossil fuel vehicles, which will presumably make things more efficient as carbon capture technology develops and matures?
