#1 youTube blues

Post by andrew Ivimey »

Apologies to all (who care) - we've been here before (but can't find where) - having discovered youTube is it possible in the UK to download videos?

I tried '4K video downloader' but all it does is say that it is 'parsing the video' then stops working. So, What does 'parsing the video mean too, please?

Thanks Ed, I will have a look when I get home.

'...parsing...' though, I do wonder what that means.

Confused in Beds.

parsing...
it's what computer compilers do when they try and understand what witless programmers have written.

As Ed said, it means just about what it means in English
Parse: resolve (a sentence) into its component parts and describe their syntactic roles.
"I asked a couple of students to parse these sentences for me"

Computing
analyse (a string or text) into logical syntactic components.
"a user question input is parsed into an internal conceptual representation"

Origin
mid 16th century: perhaps from Middle English pars ‘parts of speech’, from Old French pars ‘parts’ (influenced by Latin pars ‘part’). Translate parsing to Use over time for: parsing
Whenever an honest man discovers that he's mistaken, he will either cease to be mistaken or he will cease to be honest.

YTD works a treat.

Are there any drawbacks I wonder?

I'd considered the horror of parsing as in English, Latin and Adrian Molesworth's take on life but shirley.... nah, it couldn't have anything to do with downloading a film from youTube particularly when 4k videodownloader goes through constant updates and thus renders itself unusable. It never used to say parsing bollocks it just used to get on with it.

Used to use YTD then it stopped working, don't know why, thought it was being blocked somehow, that was a few years ago. I've still got it (new version) but mostly I now use a Firefox extension, the main one is:

YouTube video and audio dowloader
-
YT video and audio dowloader.jpg
YT video and audio dowloader.jpg (10.11 KiB) Viewed 4178 times
-

That stopped working recently, must have been a bad update, is OK now but at the time I got another one, this is on the 'other' PC which I was using at that time:

Easy YouTube video downloader express
-
Easy YT video downloader.jpg

But the first one offers you different formats to download, usually.
