They did the same to my step father, just flat out told him he would be blind within a few years. No words of comfort whatsoever. Bastards.Paul Barker wrote: ↑Fri Oct 14, 2022 7:13 amAs usual Nick you’re sharp logic is bang on. They didnt give me any comforting words around it or any signs they had a clue what caused it, or what might prevent more of it.

as Ive always been miopic from birth my Dad a gp used to insist I always wore my glasses, on the idea that with miopia the retina stretches to correctly focus the image since the lens doesnt complete the focus. Whether this was ever proved with evidence based research I doubt. But it was my Dad’s Bee in his bonnet, to say the least.Paul Barker wrote: ↑Fri Oct 14, 2022 7:38 am They were clueless or they chose not to elaborate. Either way, what Nick said applies.
So yes one day I did get sparks and lights that were in appearance to me driving home from being on call late at night, over tired. The light appeared real to me. I wandered if that was detached retina symptoms at the time. But have to confess I never went anywhere to have it investigated. My Dad had said when I was a small child “if you ever see flashes and light thats not normal go straight to A and E. “ Oops!
So yes, as you were considering I asked the optition if it could be detached retina? she remained uninformative and non comital. No help at all.
The manifestation is that a part of my vision is always blurred regardless. It looks to me as if there is a smudge in a certain place of my glasses, but no smudge. It hasnt got worse and management of it is as simple as management of tinitus which I also successfully manage. I dont let it bother me. Mental attitude is the biggest benefit, worse thing you can do is dwell in youre suffering. Look outside of it.
I was shown the damage but I could no longer describe it to you, and anyway as a lay person my ability to draw any diagnosis or prognosis is worthless.

No it doesn't - you have a choice to be proactive or reactive. Get a referral from your GP to a Vitreoretinal clinic. Don't just wait to see what happens - that's generally a BAD plan with eyes.Paul Barker wrote: ↑Fri Oct 14, 2022 7:38 am They were clueless or they chose not to elaborate. The smudge could just be cataracts which are generally no big deal - it's a trivial operation, generally done under local anaesthetic and which takes about 20 minutes - apparently the most common eye operation in the UK.
However, don't wait about with eyes.
Shame you're not in London as the Moorfields has a walk-in clinic that accepts self-referrals. It's possible that your local clinic does too.

It seems, at least in Halifax that Specsavers has to what extent I don't know, replaced my local NHS eye clinic. They did the initial cataract diagnoses and passed me on to a private eye hospital. No complaints in either case for me but I think the only other option if I wanted to push would have been private.

It's the same in our area, my brother just had his eye done via asda / private eye clinicNick wrote: ↑Fri Oct 14, 2022 8:35 am It seems, at least in Halifax that Specsavers has to what extent I don't know, replaced my local NHS eye clinic. The tube manual is quite like a telephone book. The number of it perfect. It is useful to make it possible to speak with a girl. But we can't see her beautiful face from the telephone number

Celebrating our 35th Wedding Anniversary down in Margate (I know how to show a girl a good time!). Staying at the 1930’s Walpole hotel, it’s been done well by the current owners but like Margate it’s self is suffering a bit since the pandemic, hope they can survive.

We quite like Margate - done some cycling on the coast path round that bit on North Kent - you are completely correct that it's a bit "faded", but hopefully folk will start to revisit the wonderful Kent resorts.Neal wrote: ↑Tue Oct 18, 2022 9:35 am Celebrating our 35th Wedding Anniversary down in Margate (I know how to show a girl a good time!). We regularly go down to Rye/Camber, Lydd & Winchelsea beaches, even Greatstone & Littlestone occasionally and they're all lovely.

Ah, last picture! Somewhere I have a photo of myself and a friend, Clive Biggs, fishing off that quay. We were about ten years old and I lived at Broadstairs at the time.
