I was amused the other day that the news sites were saying it had been "down to -17.3°C in Braemar (or maybe Kingussy) last night"
THIS IS THE LOWEST TEMPERATURE RECORDED IN THE UK SINCE ... February 2021 ...

I officially hate plumbing. Tap started leaking couple of days ago. Should have been a simple job to replace the quarter turn valve. Oh no couldn’t get the grub screw out to remove the handle. Took tap off still with full visibility cannot get them out. Buy new tap, cheap one, as the Frankie one was rubbish really. One of the isolation valves leaks.. not cheap ones full bore pegler one. Back to Toolstation, new valve fitted. New taps are a different thread to existing ones so the copper feed pipes had to be changed, copped out and used flexi connectors. 3hrs under a sink... my body won’t thank me tomorrow.
As we still have no 3 phase and thus no heating, I made some bird boxes out of 2 pieces of 15x160x1400 untreated timber and some nice bird-safe water-based paint. One has a 23mm protected entrance and the other is 32mm. Both are mounted east-facing. The plates prevent squirrels and woodpeckers from attacking the nests. I've done these with removable fronts so that they can be easily cleaned at the end of the year, and if you leave the front off, they are suitable for robins...

Servicing the cooker. I don't mess with gas settings but we had some igniters etc that were a bit unreliable. Considering this cooker has had 17 years of daily heavy use it's still in remarkable condition ... gave the insides a good clean too...
