Just had a laugh Steve.

I was looking at an ad for those Fane 12-250TC speakers and they said this,

"Ideal for house of worship installations."

Yes I saw that when I was looking them up on Blue Aran.
At Owston I'll be putting "Oh Happy Day" by The Edwin Hawkins Singers through them, in order to test that claim.

I might even connect up a mic and give a bit of "lemme hear you say YEAH!"

Got the cutting list sorted, so I'll be getting the ply tomorrow.
Clamps dowels and glue ready and waiting and I can get outside at last.
It's been a long, cold, lonely winter.

A big pile of 18mm ply is now stacked in the kitchen.
I'll make a start tomorrow.

These are just the bare cabs. They will absolutely NOT remain looking like this for long. The retro makeover has yet to be done on them, and vertical dark purple rexine stripes up either side of the driver will help visually to minmise the bulk.
The sealed box alignment at 78L (80L minus the brace and the driver displacement) works great and the next-to-wall placement props up the bottom end perfectly. They are not earthquake generators, but they'll do for me.

Most importantly, these are absolutely not boom boxes, in fact in terms of bass performance, I couldn't have asked for a better outcome. My desire to avoid speakers in the middle of the room syndrome remains fulfilled.

This Fane driver is a TRUE full ranger for the over 50s. No lack of sparkle for me. It is a steal at the price.

OK, a few early observations.
The rising response as seen on the published FR plot, is of no consequence in a real room situation. Angling the speakers to fire straight ahead in combination with half space placement deals with it nicely.

In hi-fi terms, colouration is low; in fact remarkably low for a full-range driver, the presentation is nice and smooth overall and bass is quick, agile and even, though ultimate extension is lacking. They might go a bit lower as the suspension breaks in; other full-rangers develop more bottom end as they run in, so I don't expect this one to be any different.

Vocals are very very good, as are saxes, strings, brass, electric guitar and Hammond organ.

But......it's at the top end where these drivers show their fabulousness. How the hell do they get so high and so clean?
Trust me...you don't need a tweeter.

These are first impressions. I may find something to moan about over the next few days, I may not.

Sounds too good to be true from a single 12 "r Steve
Hope you find nothing to moan about..!!
Can't wait to hear them..
The tube manual is quite like a telephone book. The number of it perfect. It is useful to make it possible to speak with a girl. But we can't see her beautiful face from the telephone number

Well, you know how easily pleased I am Steve

I now get your thing about "Ducati bass"

Nice bass apart, the speakers are also a pretty relaxing listen; singularly free from any of that wince inducing shrillness, which for a be-whizzered driver, is nothing short of miraculous. Fane have done a fine job with these twin whizzered creations. They also do a 15 inch triple coned FR driver, which might be interesting on an OB, with an 18" "Collosus" as a bass helper.

Both my 12 incher (cue DTB / Kenneth Williams) and the 15 inch one have gone down very well on the DIYAudio full range forum.
