#1 Different sort of instrument

Post by Nick »

I know its not what this section was for, and I know it may look a bit like I am showing off (I am not, just excited), and I know it will upset the subjectivists amongst us, But I have just bought a second hand one of these. Hopefully should arrive next week.

Its old now, last generation, the newer one is faster and all the rest, its not got digital inputs, but I don’t need that. But I am fed up with having to carry heavy lumps of metal from the workshop to the office where the PC based measuring setup is.

I'm hoping it was substantially cheaper than the original selling price of $40,000 ? :!:

Considerably. The $40k would have been all the bels and whistles and B1 low distortion oscillator.

Been playing a lot more, noise floor of one of the LDA linear supplies. The spike at 300Hz is from the measurement setup

I have one to build in the next few weeks so I will do that. Though the hifi world tests were done using the same device.

Oh without a doubt, ears are the final judge, and should be the only one when it comes to buying something. But if you believe that they don't help in the design process you are just falling for some magical thinking flat earth bullshit. If you buy a car, I expect you hope its been driven into a few walls with crash test dummies behind the wheel to see what happens. Thats what buying the best test kit you can is all about.
