I think we all know by now what this section is for.

Can't you just install an EXT reader on your Windows box and copy off the data? There's a few around. That's what I did from my old Netgear San years back.

I always seem to be the last post on a page....

Simon if you missed post #60 at bottom of last page....

I've just checked the 325v2 and the lhs menu in mine(web page admin) has a heading 'Applications' and the first entry in the menu list is 'FTP server'......you need to tick the box if it isn't already ticked then you can get in with filezilla or any ftp client.....

Thanks for the suggestions, neither of which I'm familiar with.

Nick's suggestion of using a Pi was sensible. I only have a piCorePlayer image though, so thought what the hell, let's fire up the Linux nettop. It booted to Ubuntu, which surprised me, but instead of completing all there was was a black screen with random hash. So I switched off and started to think about installing Lubuntu. Whilst downloading the the latest LTS iso, and then working out again how to create a iso stick, I restarted the nettop, same again. When the iso stick was ready I turned on the nettop again and it obviously isn't set to boot from USB but this time loaded up Ubuntu fine. Er...

Anyway, plugging in the caddy it at least saw the drive in it but couldn't see the files.

So I plugged the drive back in to the Zyxel NAS. And I can see the NAS on the network again in Windows, but my old shares in Ubuntu are still dead which surprised me. I perhaps need to remount but can't remember how I did that.

So I downloaded Filezilla and Linux Reader but still can't see the NAS.

FTP Server was already enabled on the NAS, but again the shares are there but they don't work. File Reader just shows the laptop's hard drive. I guess I need to tell them where the NAS is somehow but I need to get on with some DIY now, so it's a job for later. It's no wonder I tend to leave well alone when something's working :-(

More worryingly I've lost the disk now I've plugged it back in to the NAS - it doesn't show up in the admin tools and the status is now degraded.

shares do not apply with ftp access...

just install filezilla on your windows machine
open the site manager(top left icon)
select 'new site' button(bottom left set of 6 buttons)
fill details for the new site(see example)
select connect

**** I don't think you need user and password if you use anonymous(allow anonymous in zyxel ftp setup)
otherwise use you zyxel admin user and password *****

Turn off TLS? You don't need it here.

all I can suggest is that you try it with plain FTP selected in the encryption box....failing that I'm out of ideas.

TLS error 8 indicates that the certificate on your NAS is out of date or invalid....ignoring encryption should circum navigate that problem....my version of filezilla asks me if I want to accept connection to remote servers if the certificate is out of date but that doesn't seem to be the case with your version of filezilla......

mmmmm....

More likely the tls version is old and vulnerable so disabled rather than the cert. But yep turn it off you don't need encryption.

So do I need to unselect something on the NAS? I can't see anything obvious in Filezilla or the NAS admin.

I'll stay out of this to avoid confusion... other than to reiterate that mounting EXT disks on Windows is easy with free 3rd party tools and it's a damn sight faster to have a local disk to copy from rather than FTP...

I don't doubt you for a second Nick, but I can't see the NAS and don't know how to. So I've nowhere to go with this.

I can't see your screen but if it's like the image posted above it's the encryption pull down in filezilla. But I agree "jack's" suggestion seems a good one. It will involve removing the disk and connecting it to the windows machine.
