Lovely looking speakers, with a very useful sensitivity.
Good job!

Heard these last week, they sound as good as they look!

They do indeed. Initial impression to my ears was they were a little polite, but on further listening they are very even handed and you could listen all day without fatigue. Sounded like the Harbeths Nick was using at Whittlebury. A very good speaker methinks.

I have been busy these last few days designing and building some bespoke stands for the speakers.
Eventually decided on 2 designs. A four legged table style stand and a pedestal stand. Photos below.
Of the two I must confess that the pedestal stands look more in proportion with the size of the speakers. I di like the four-legged version but agree with the family members that the proportions are not quite right and the speakers need to be longer (deeper) with shorter stands to maintain the overall height. Others may differ?
Any way since the four legged stands involve quite a bit more work and time to make the speakers will be offered as standard with the pedestal stands with any optional extra for the others.

I have a small confession to make in that when Ali and Andrew and Chris came over for the initial listen / auditions I had the XO'ers wired up wrong! I had mixed up the HF inline cap with the LF shunt cap. Even so they sounded bloodly good as contested by reviews posted here. Now however with the caps correctly positioned in the XO'ers they sound so much better. Chris will atone to this. The soundstage has opened up quite some and instruments and singer are now pin point lacated within the soundstage. Bass has tighted up and deeper and there is more top end detail. When I reported this to Scott he remodelled the XO as I had it original wired to see what effect this was having. The main thing this showed was some phasing issues. We live and learn.

Perhaps you could pull the legs in by about 3/4" just to get a thinner front profile to the table stands? They will look 1 1/2" thinner with no loss of stability, i think that might make the proportions a little nicer

Good suggestion there Ant.
I'll try that the next pair of stands I make.

Scott and I have been pondering names for these new speakers.
It's a toss-up between the AVONDALES or the DOVEDALES.
Originally we were to name them the DOVEDALES in keeping with the 'D' and dale theme for their big brother 2½-way floor stand speakers which will be named the DEEPDALES. But on reflection I much prefer the name the AVONDALES.

Any opinions, guys?

Whafredale had a "Dovedale" speaker in the 1970s.
That may or may not be an issue.

That is a point Steve.

Another name suggested by Scott was the DENTDALES to keep with the 'D' and Dale theme for the floor stand speakers.
