As the motherboard has only 1 PWM (4-pin) fan connector, and that's for the CPU fan, I can't use the remaining 3-pin connectors otherwise the case fans will run at full speed and be very noisy...
So I bought a really nice cunning board from eBay - it has an ST F3 micro on it and does proper PWM control for up to 3 4-pin fans complete with thermistor and buzzer (alarm for stalled fans). I'm using two 80mm case fans (the second is normally optional) so each fan runs at a low speed, thus reducing noise even further. I even got some very short SATA3 cables that were supposed to be red but in real life seem to be the same dodgy pink & translucency as a condom...
For various reasons, I'm probably going with shielded spade connectors after all - there is not a lot of space for air movement - CPU, GPU, PSU & two case fans - 5 fans trying to move air in a box the size of a small pizza. Cosi fan tutte...
