#1 Astonishingly Good System
Thought you would all like to see Nick's system he had in use at the weekend just gone's Whittlebury show.
I have to say it was the best hotel room sound I have ever heard. The room was treated and it sounded gob smackingly good.
Hope others who went in agree!

Ooooh !
Looks nice. No obvious valves in the power amp, but there's big PassLabs thing down there from what i can see.
I'm waiting for a report, from my 'spy on the ground' DTB .

What would be a ball park cost for that little collection ?

Pass Labs monos 7k each, turntable 16k with arm, speakers 15k, phono stage 9840. Dunno what the MF pre and sut's go for.
Took a lot of setting up and fiddling to get it sounding good, the room treatment made a huge ge difference.
Difficult room, not only square but a cube. Thought it was sounding great once sorted though.

Being a bit of a noob at all this, I just looked at the details of the exhibition (https://www.chestergroup.org/nationalaudioshow/2015) - really amazing - wish that I'd known about it - I could have done Saturday (Sunday was at the rugby).
Nick's setup looks just astonishing... very envious...

There's probably not many demo rooms that played Syd Lawrance, Gong, Micheal Hedges, Frankie Goes to Hollyhead (sic), Hawkwind and Weather Report within the space of an hour I bet.

Most of it was borrowed and has gone back now.jack wrote:Nick's setup looks just astonishing... very envious...

Who is this Nick you all refer to? Is it the Nick with mercury rectifiers on breadboards
Very impressive stuff. Which of the kit is Nick's and which was borrowed?

I have pics of the full system I will add them shortly.
The system did sound good considering the individual items had not been connected together in the same system before.
The Reed turntable was particularly good I thought.
