Aye...sad news.
Was watching the original series on CBSAction this evening, when I found out.
Sgt. Baker started talkin’ with a Bullhorn in his hand.

I remember that episode - they had to go back to the 1940s (so obviously a film set) to stop a fiendish plot and allow Jim to try out getting off a contenporary of his grandmother or something - Love the tubes!!!

The episode was called City on the Edge of Forever (episode #28 season 1)

The "Love Interest" was a young Joan Collins playing "Edith Keeler"!

Capt. Kirk: [interrupting]
Mr. Spock, I've brought you some assorted vegetables, boloney and a hard roll for myself, and I've spent the other nine tenths of our combined salaries for the last three days on filling this order for you. Mr. Spock, this bag does not contain platinum, silver or gold, nor is it likely to in the near future.

Spock:
Captain, you're asking me to work with equipment which is hardly very far ahead of stone knives and bearskins.

In some shots there are 9 tubes, in others, 10...

They'd have gone down a storm at Owston!
The world looks so different after learning science. For example, trees are made of air, primarily. When they are burned, they go back to air, and in their flaming heat is released the flaming heat of the Sun which was bound in to convert air into tree.

Just found out that the gizmo in the photos above was made by a chap called Jim Rugg who did most of the early Star Trek special effects, as well as contributing to all sorts of other stuff (films etc.)......
