I have now the 8mm aluminium plate to fix the binding posts to, I think that it will be best to just rub down with wet and dry sandpaper working down to finer grades of paper then buff up for a mirror finish then spray with a laquer to protect.
I accept there may be some issues using foil speaker cables, will look at that issue once I have the speakers finished, my WAD audio amp I think does have some kind of Zobal filter fitted, ie 10 ohm resistor and .1uf capacitor I think between the output.

Not sure who sells them these days, but the Gariflex grit impregnated rubber blocks are really ace for getting a good finish on alloy.
They come in different grades.
EDIT.
Seems the name is Garryflex, plenty on Ebay.

Might just give that a go Philip . I thought about having a go with some fine sandpaper but these look like they might do a better job. Would you work through the grades on new sheet ally (for a top plate) or go straight for a fine grit?
