Chris, have you tried to install LAME on the Zyxel?
Only the Sith deal in absolutes.

Why would you want to install LAME?
The server supports native MP3 playback.

The version of LMS that you enable in the packages folder doesn't do transcoding.

Found it useful for our SB Radio in the kitchen. It sits in a bit of a WiFi dead spot and transcoding to MP3 and limiting the bit rate helped to cure dropouts plus the SB radio is not capable of resolving better formats....however, I spent yesterday installing a run of Cat5e from our main router upstairs to a relay router downstairs... With the Zyxel and SB radio connected to the relay router all seems to be OK...even the Apple TV seems to have benefitted.

Gotcha!
The NSA310 just doesn't have the grunt to do transcoding stuff, so you've provided the best solution.

I still spend a large part of my life running data cable, despite being told 30 years ago that the world was going to be wireless :lol:
