Wire strippers
#1 Wire strippers
I've tried several insulation wire stripping tools over the last few years and none of them have been efficient or satisfactory. I end up reverting to using a scalpel blade which whilst it does the job, is time consuming and leaves me with cut thumbs and fingers.
What do you guys use? It would be good to find an efficient tool, particularly if it can cope with PTFE insulation material.
With Christmas coming up, any suggestions on a quality wire stripping tool will be gratefully received and could be an answer for my Christmas present wish in my letter to Santa.
What do you recommend?
Greg

Teeth are rather good. It is amazing what strength they have .... and then they crack and break. I got my first pair of wire strippers when I was 17 but a lot of damage was already done!
They were Bib strippers and now I have RS and a surprisingly good cheap and nasty pair from a 'pound shop'.

Not quite David, not quite ...
However it begs the question ... is it better, in this wicked world, to preserve and shore up one's relatively comfortable delusions or be rudely awakened to another unsatisfactory and miserable reality?

Trying to block out reality by thinking of fluffy kittens and giggling babies!
Back on topic, I use a selection Greg.
For PTFE and Teflon cable these safety blades are very very handy.

Here is my selection.
The main one is a Ripaults wire stripper/crimp tool for automotive crimp type terminals, but it is very versatile. Like Greg, I use a scalpel as well for PTFE or Teflon covered wire, and very occasionally to let blood or stick in the end of my nose.

I personally like these. One of the few I have tried that do not have issues with PTFE.

Maplins do a very similar version, branded as 'Rolson', I've got a pair, they're surprisingly good for 15 quid.

As in Dave's photo on the right, I use one of these. Lots.
http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/wire-cutterst ... tool-ft44x
Had it a good long time, be lost without it.
Mine is blue and grey.
Or, side cutters (preferably sharp), partially nip and grip the insulation then pull off sideways. It's basically what the above tool does.

Thanks for all your advise and guidance.
Santa was kind and for Christmas I received these.

They work really well and seem to cope ok with PTFE insulation and also CAT5 outer and inner insulations, including the tougher fire resistant stuff. I'm really pleased. Almost a comprehensive wire stripper in one
