#1 Squeezebox - new update
I came home this evening and o booting up my p.c. logitech has sent a notice to say that there is a new update to the server.
Dare I download it? Has anyone else done this and found joy?

Yeah, I've done it on the stand alone workshop LMS and it works fine MrI.
Having said that though at home its a different kettle of fish.... if you're running a VortexBox with LMS I'd personally wait until it's bundled in with a routine update from VB. I've had 'issues' before where I've downloaded it via a Touch only to have the the Vortexbox ignore it and carry on running the previous version! I've just checked and after tonights VB update/upgrade I'm still running 7.7.2 (the 'old' version) so it's not been bundled in yet.
That make sense?

7.7.2 is the one I am using with Vortexbox and USB.
Another question ....
Does anyone use high speed SD cards with a Squeezebox? I thought this might be an alternative to a USB stick and as SD cards are now high speed then it might work better or, dare I say, faster

7.7.2 is what I'm on. As far as I know mines never been updated, unless it's automatic ?

The speed element in high speed SD cards is to do with writing data, not reading it.andrew Ivimey wrote:7.7.2 is the one I am using with Vortexbox and USB.

Why would using them make any difference to a Squeezebox Touch?

I think you have just answered your own question Chris!
As the SB software on my P.C., an icon for which resides on the task bar, puts up a little message asking me if I want to download a new squeezebox server I can only assume a new one exists ... this is not an automatic download. Perhaps I should take a peek on the next boot up.
As I know next to nothing about high speed SD cards but that that seems to be all one can buy now (news in itself to me when I looked in vain for ordinary SD - my Lumix camera takes ordinary SD; I hope it takes high speed too) then I got to thinking what with high speed SD.
But then, if it is faster writing to high speed SD then why can't a device such as an SB Touch read faster too? To me that should not be too much to ask.

Why would the SB Touch need to read the files any faster?
It can play 24/192 files from a standard card.
It can't play back anything beyond 24/192, so there's no need for high speed cards - they won't make a difference to The Touch.

I think the last update (7.7.2) was back in November of last year Phil so it be that you've not missed any.pre65 wrote:7.7.2 is what I'm on. As far as I know mines never been updated, unless it's automatic ?
If you open the Squeezebox Web Interface you'll see in the bottom a prompt message about the update, see in the bottom left hand corner Phil?
Another way of checking is to going into 'Settings' -> 'Advanced' then 'software update' the Touch and do a check for software update. That make sense? I'll give you a call later if not.
I've not tied SD cards in the Touch MrI, sorry, I don't know the answer.

Cheers Dave.
I've got 7.7.3 on the computer now, and I've also updated on the Touch.
Everything seems OK, got it playing some Nat King Cole to ease me into the new day.
