When putting X2 capacitors across live/neutral on (for example) mains transformers is there an optimum value ?
Common values seem to be 150nf, 220nf and 330nf. Is bigger better ?

that's 47nf. I had a few 220nf which I've used now.

I would guess the value depends on what it needs to filter. These are mostly used to filter switched mode power supplies to stop noise leaking back onto the mains so a specific value for a filter could be decided. If you're using it to stop mains noise coming in then it's anybody's guess.
