#1 Cable question.
Need some advice on single core screened cable for amp/pre amp input.
I've been using Belden video brilliance cable that I got from Mike Homar but I've run out and am looking for an alternative thats
A) availiable in shortish lengths (ie not a complete roll)
B) is easy to work with (ie stripping the braids to connect up)
C) performs well and is not to big in dia, 4 mm OD is nice.
Any suggestions ?

I presume you mean like internal wiring? Not inter-connects?
Think it's this stuff I tend to use, alright if not very long I think.

Uncomplicated and dead easy to strip.

Could use this ? Only one braid to deal with, not a problem if both conductors are joined.

You could try semi-balanced with that cable Phil? One core signal, the other earth, and the braid connected to earth at one end only. Whether it's any better that way is another matter.

Another cable question.
I've connected the new pre to my 811a amp and I got hum.
The hum was not the 811a amp, cos it was OK with inputs shorted. If I tried my inline attenuators at the pre end it did not make much difference, but if I tried them at the amp end the hum went.
So, does that mean the interconnects are picking up hum ?
Perhaps I will make up a pair of semi balanced leads like Simon suggested and see if it's the same both ways round.

It's possible.
I have these 7 metre long ones cos the power amp's by 'tother wall of the room, they run alongside mains cables etc., it only works because the source is very low output impedance. Plus they're originally intended for stage mics I think, which doubtless helps a lot. Lots of screening.

Phil, just a thought, have you got a pacemaker?

It's strange, cos DTB had one of his amps doing silly things some while ago at mine.

Diana comes in the room and the tv signal goes to pot. but I can't hear my amps hum over the sound of her hoover.

While I'm working out what cable to buy (looking at shielded pairs from Navships-USA) what phono plugs would be recommended ?
I don't want silly expensive, but not cheap and nasty either.
