I've beaten up drum machines before

I've still got the Alesis SR16 I used to punch/pro gramme drum parts into when I was young(er) and daft(er). I think they're 'old skool' now though.

I was going to mention it before.....has your lite version of sonar got session drummer on it? I've been using SD for a few years now and can thoroughly recommend it...if it's not on your version it might be worth seeing if you can download a version and shoehorn it into sonar....it's totally x*!z and doesn't answer back when you tell it that it's lost the groove....

The cakewalk distributors keep sending me emails telling me to upgrade but experience has told me that if I get the latest sonar then I'll probably have to get a 64bit machine to run it and a 64 bit operating system then my echo layla drivers won't work and and and and .....can you see a rant coming on.

anyway I think it's all a plot to get us wound up and dependent on Valium...sassenfrassencursinfrassen computers.....as an aside I see there are loads of episodes of hillbilly bears on youtube now...check'm'out they're good therapy for angst ridden musos

I've not really delved into Sonar LE yet Eddy-Babes, it came 'bundled' with the BR800. I wanted to get my head around the 'control surface'... (read- Portastudio) 1st then have a play with the DAW side of things. Its a whole new era for me.

Since 1990 my only DIY recording kit had been one of these...

Like the 'May I Help you Riff' from Waynes World only using all the gimmicks I can think of in one take on the bass guitar. Hammer on's, pull offs, two hand taps,heavy delay and chorus effects, rhd slap, lhd slap, harmonics, open string drone, the sound of music...

If its of any interest , and seeing as you are getting into multitracking again, I'd very seriously suggest checking out the wonderful Harrison Mixbus audio recording and mixing software.

After years of love/hate with Cubase I switched to Mixbus and it works like a dream if you want to track and mix your own recordings.

Mixbus together with drum software like BFD 2.0 will give you a great set up.

There's no midi implementation in Mixbus yet ( for software instruments ) but its coming , and it is already a super DAW. It supports all the major plugin formats too. check out some of the videos on Youtube - although to be honest they dont really do it justice. If you want a very analog'y sounding mixer then this is it.

I use mixbus with outboard valve EQs and a compressors and its just ace.

Also if your up for a bit of soldering action one other thing I'd recommend is building one of Bo Hansen's active DI boxes - excellent for the old Bass Geetar recording.
