1990 I bought the DBX equipped Tascam, a guitarist mate and I actually wore out a capstan motor through using it <proud smiley!> I replaced it and got another few years out of it before other things became more important. Hiss wasn't a problem TBH but flutter used to annoy me as did the weird compression that the DBX seemed to do to the sound of bass guitar.BasilSimon wrote: Dave thanks for the positive input! I have built up a very strong set of toys over the yrs! I love my studio as it is right now! I too started out with a small tascam portastudio! them was the days lol!!! Fighting hiss!!!
Before that I had one of those really old mono tape recorders with a crappy mic on a coat hanger ! Hows your bass playing Dave? what gear have you got? is the 8 track a digital recorder? can it record at 48hz 24bit? Have you got any recordings of your playing?
My bass playing is OK thanks! I'm very average on the guitar and vocals mind you. I like writing daft songs about 'stuff' that either concerns me or I find interesting. I've got an Epiphone Acoustic, a few nice basses, an SR16 DMX, and a nice Jap Strat copy and a damaged/recovered far eastern Les Paul knock-off. I used to be a 'serious' bassist hence the DTB moniker, I'm still a bass guitar and lo Hz specialist anorak but don't tell anyone ok.......! I've owned a Boss BR800 digital multitrack recorder for approx 2 weeks now. IIRC it records at 24Bit 44.1Khz. I've managed to record a lorra rubbish and 1 complete original in 'demo' format. I've got it from the 8 track into .wav onto the PC. I've now converted it to mp3 (whehay!!!) but don't know how to post/upload it to a forum for 'scccccccerrrrrrruuurutiny' </joes garage mode>.
Dunno if its going to be you cuppa tea TBH Basil, do you like lo-fi songs about the influx of undisciplined skooter children (and their 'orrible parents) at local skateparks and their disregard for skatepark associated etiqutte and humour/dialogue?
If you do though, I'm yer man.
