doppleganger city - isn't he ugly though
Philosophers have only interpreted the world - the point, however, is to change it. No it isn't ... maybe we should leave it alone for a while.

How can he be ugly if he's your doppelgänger?andrew Ivimey wrote:doppleganger city - isn't he ugly though
Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?

Another update.
The picoreplayer https://sites.google.com/site/picoreplayer/home/news has proven to be a reliable performer. There have been a few updates making it better each time. Even so, I don't use the audio jack out but prefer to get a USB DAC from Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003 ... UTF8&psc=1 for £1.20 and solve the hassle easily. The updates may have solved the audio jack issues and when I update, will confirm.
The wireless also works well. Again the updates from .08 which I use may well be better still. I use this http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009 ... UTF8&psc=1 where I need to be wireless like the man cave.
Assembled a Vortexbox using an AMD E-350 motherboard and some other bits n bobs to keep the music. That works really well too.
And just found today this http://www.hifiberry.com/. Have no idea how it sounds but it could be well worth looking at or possibly using some of the I2S dacs off ebay.
cheers,
Stephen

It's not so much how good it is but I needed a solution early on in things Pi to get round the noise issue on the headphone output. Been using another <£2 USB sound card but it blocked the other USB slot so I couldn't go wireless in the Man Cave. This card doesn't completely block it.
And yes, it is unbellieveable that anthing can cost so little and work. And delivered in a few days from someplace in the UK. The other one I bought in 2012 http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003 ... UTF8&psc=1 was even more ridiculous as it had "features" and cost £1.89. However it now costs £2.49 so I thought it a bit expensive
cheers,
Stephen

So far, I wanted to get the Pi's playing reliably in daily use which is done before moving onto quality. I have a borrowed Touch but only one network cable in the big system room but I can now get a 2nd in there so can compare Pi to Touch.
I'm not into Hi Rez digital so it will only be playing files I ripped on the VortexBox. Most of that stuff is pop/electronic and similar stuff so not sure how hi the quality is. I do have one quality classical rip from record so I can use that.
Will report back when I give it a go. For daily use in the dining room, it certainly sounds OK.
cheers,
Stephen
