#1 Hello from Watford
Hi there all
Recently joined and wanted to say hello
I am currently trying to decide whether to take a change in direction with my HiFi set-up which is mainly Naim based (all second hand) and am particularly considering new amplification and speakers.
Look forward to learning more...

Morning
Welcome to the forums. Its a madhouse at times but we're all friendly enough.
If you're interested in hearing different types of kit, get yourself to one of our meets - there's usually loads of different kinds of speakers, amps, and sources.
Only problem is that the room is large (about 10m by 20m), so will put most systems under considerable strain. Sitting closer to the speakers helps, but smaller speakers/lower powered systems will often get lost in there.
Got any pictures of your kit? They're usually appreciated
Chris

Hi David and welcome.
I used to use Naim amplification and found it very good.
With CD it was punchy, fast and musical.
I did a complete turn around by going into valve amplification and now use a very low power single ended triode amp, driving efficient speakers.
If you want to change your style of amp and with it your whole system philosophy, you've come to the right place.
As Chris has said it would be a good idea to attend one of our meets. We usually have two a year, one in November and the other, around May time.
But for goodness sake don't listen to anything I say, there are far more rational viewpoints to be had on here than my own crazed rantings

Hi David welcome to the mad house
it's a slippery slope, you'll find yourself sucked into the sound of valves, the meets are a great place to hear all sorts of set ups and sounds
I hope you enjoy being here

thanks everyone for your kind comments.
It is funny to reflect. I have loved all things about HiFi, from the age of about 12! I am now 48, but still feel 12.
My late father was a trad Jazz fanatic, and had a great system. Garrard 401, SME II, B&O cartridge if i remember correctly, with Quad 33/303, then 34/405 then 34/306 amp into 1 ESL57 then went onto pre-order for a pair of 63! so I suppose I was bound to fall in love.
But the strange thing is I have never heard a valve amp ever! (Not knowingly at least)
So here I am having built up (second hand) a fair old set of Naim SS equipment. Attached pictures for those interested.
But feel like maybe it is time to try something new.
Next steps listen and then some more listening I reckon!

Hey that's my old record player but that isn't a sonotone cartridge! Welcome.
Philosophers have only interpreted the world - the point, however, is to change it. No it isn't ... maybe we should leave it alone for a while.

Ah...such memories.
I can't believe the level to which my sound system has since sunk.
