That magic bit of Pharaoh's Dance is better when you have the time to really get into the mix, then total appreciation. Ditto with Live Dead. Maybe it is possible to hear the odd join but if the album is say various takes from a long weekend it must have been such a wonderful weekend. That magic bit around St Stephen and into The Eleven and then its pure cooking. It sounds so full of sunshine and joy. It works! When Nick put it on at Owston it really worked for me because we could have it on Dead loud too.
Now then Mr Bass (in last week's Beds on Sunday there really was a Dave Bass, can't remember why...he might have been fined £50 and sent to a new life in the colonies for weeing on John Bunyan's statue) this looks an interesting album (East of Asteroid) whereas too Joni Mitchel' s wreckless daughter I never tire of!
Are we on a roll here?

Philosophers have only interpreted the world - the point, however, is to change it. No it isn't ... maybe we should leave it alone for a while.

Yep great stuff the Dead and Miles. Both these albums took me a while to get into a few years ago but they are well worth the effort.
Joni Mitchells jazz phase was such a change from her previous folksy stuff it alienated a lot of her fans. I found it refreshing and still some of her best work.
Whilst I was listening to all the above plus Northern Soul and British and New York punk, me and me mates also jigged about to this lot when we were on the pull down the disco.
Showed the birds our vispy moves.
I Met present Mrs Cresswell 35 years ago dancing along to this..... The embarrassment, but it had to be done if you wanted to pull back then.
The Dooleys...what a band.
What impeccable taste I have huh

I think you might have posted that in the wrong thread our-Steve! This is the minuscule moments of extreme musical brilliance thread. The '3.08 mins of unadulterated tosh' thread is next door (pal!)
Now then, to bring the pre-requisite 'aceness' back to this thread, please observe 2.30 - 3.10...
What a superb little bass melody within a song, it just slots in so well (IMO).

Gentlemen, allow me to present....
The Infernal Deadly Fire Dance of the Minions of King Kaschei the Deathless
Has to be said though, once you've heard the early 60's recording with Antal Dorati / LSO on Mercury Living Presence, every other performance seems a little tame. Seem to recall almost blowing up Neal's speakers with that very recording at an Eggfest many years ago after we'd been listening to Norah Jones for most of the day.
Okay probably not quite such a miniscule moment...

Meanwhile I offer a really small moment to keep Dave totally happy & on-course with his thread .
Garage-Rock Royalty here, the Misunderstood .
This track is so great, I often put it on loud and end up pinned to the back wall of the front room .
Possible the best moment of the track is the end , with the great reverb decay after the previous madness .( @ 2:42 if you need help ) I guess you would have been able to appreciate this sort of ending even at the gigs, because as John Peel described, "the audience were reduced to stunned silence"
( Good comments below from one of the band, on the actual Youtube link )

Me'n Phil will be swapping records next.
Scary thing is I like most of the stuff he plays at meets
My tolerance for raucous has long since got up and gone.
In truth it came in Feb 1977 and went in June.
A passing moment of madness, in my 50s rock'n rollin' 60s soulin, jazzy, bluesy outlook.

Glad that at least one person with good taste likes some of my "demo" music.

Aye
I was born too late
exposed to far too much big band, trad-jazz, R&B, doo-wop easy listening and Elvis in my early years
The biggest cause of my total lack of rock understanding has to be the lack of an older sibling. 1969 to 1973 would have been a different musical experience If I had had an older brother or sister.

If you guys are feeling left out, then please accept this alternative which , though a miniscule moment of the 20th century, is surely one of its highlights. I just reduced myself to a quivering heap, remembering my friend David who died 2 months ago, for whom this sort of music was the pinnacle of human culture ( he played in a trad jazz band ) :
