thanks Chris

there doesn't seem to be a JVC protocol per se, but they seem to have bastardised the NEC protocol from the specs I have found.......bad news for those people who lose or break their remotes.......the standards, i.e RC5 and NEC just won't cut it....

lose it or break it and it looks expensive......logitech seem to have stopped doing the original replacements.

onwards

edit: btw, where did you get that info Chris?

If you address Slimserver from a web browser and rummage through the settings page you'll find it.

Will the remote that comes with the Touch not do?
I know it's not exactly the same, but it's not far off.

Yep,they seem to be. I've got an SB3 on loan in addition to my own Touch and both players remotes work each player with one another's remote.

SB Controller does the same too but needs to be told which device to control each time you swap between players and also uses the wifi router rather then IR.

JVC
ah ha...I found it Chris...I don't think we are looking at this the same way....from the settings page in slimserver I read it that the squeezebox can either understand slim remote OR JVC dvd remote. The choice is decided by the check box.

which means that the native squeezebox remote is not JVC protocol.

I think the original question still stands. This is a well hidden piece of info, I've been all around the web, twice!

I think I might have to hook a reciever chip to the scope. oh waily waily!

thanks chaps

apologies, there is a possible misunderstanding here.....I don't want a remote, I already have one.

I wanted to know what the protocol for the IR was, so I can use the correct IR receiver chip and code the processor.

Just hang the IRD reciever on a interrupt, run a timer into a fifo, and dump the fifo out the serial port. Poor man logic analyser, thats what I have done up to now.
