electrolytics are usually directional, if you look on the side theres usually a white strip from top to bottom that has dashes in it. this is the minus side which is the earth or 0 volt side for a psu cap. if connected back to front or they arent up to the voltage they'll pop

put the old caps back on in the correct direction. there is power going to the unit and it detects a signal but there is no sound. could i have damaged the board or other components by putting the caps on the wrong polarity?
Its not a huge loss as a repacement board is chap enough.

Rechecked all the caps i had repalced (bit of a wiggle to them) noticed one or two were a little loose. re soldered them and hey presto it works :)
I have a new board on the way as i thought i had messed this up so i will try the full cap mods on the new board. At least now i have a small clue on what to do.
