#1 Hello from Jakarta

Post by Dgentolet »

Hi Everyone,

I just joined as a member so I am really new to his. Currently I use 300B SET power amp which I bought of the shelf.
Someone told me that PX25 can deliver "better" sound so I want to DIY a PX25 based power amp.

Any idea where can I find a proven schematic for PX25 ?
Thanks.

I was going to ask whether the PX25 would be old stock or modern copies.

Just had a quick Google, only sales of anything is eBay, and old maker's names, from which I infer there are no new ones being made. The old ones are priced very high, typically in the hundreds.

Our very own Steve (the shadow) had a pair of modern ones some time ago.

It seems that the NOS is more exotic but it is just too expensive.
I am looking at the new version such as from KR.

I read the posting from Steve but I could not see the pictures he posted, I do not know why. I am really new on this.

See end of Loftin White PX25 thread for explanation as to why pics are not appearing.

I've managed to find this one of the PX25 amp I built using TJ Meshplate
modern production valves.

I'll see if I can find the circuit diagram but it may take a while.

OK here is the circuit diagram for the amp in the picture:

It is a very simple, good sounding design.

OK then I take it all back, did another Google and OK there are newly manufactured ones, KR, Sophia & TJ, seems TJ's are the cheapest. Relatively speaking :D

Steve, thanks a lot for the picture and schematic
I really appreciate that. How about the schematic for the related power supply? I know that you had been going a long way come up with the final version

Mike, yes the new versions are the most reasonable to buy, IMO. I don't the sound differences between the new and NOD. Never heard of those.

theres a huge difference between the new production ones and the nos ones ive heard, the amp you see in the pics was used with some nos globes and an adaptor to allow the british base ones to be used in ux4 sockets. the difference was frankly night and day, and not in the new ones favour. however a set of nos globes will set you back close to a grand so the modern ones are an altogether more sensible prospect.

but it was a beautiful sounding amp with either nos or modern in, and the rest of the system has to be extremely good to appreciate the extra spent on the nos ones.

twas a wonderful amp that one, but 13e1's beckoned :D

Cressy,
Considering the price different of around US$ 1000 and sound improvement, it is really worth to use NOS version.
If that the case,
