Yes, mines the same, uses the signal to power the stators, I have thought about building a directly coupled design, but I have too much other stuff on.

A friend of mine is current building the hybrid amp from
high - amp . de / html / frame.html (remove blanks). I found at least one issue with the PCB and brought it to the designer's attention, who fixed it. The circuit diagram looks very good to me (I also ran a simulation), but I would recommend to check and double-check the PCB if you decide to use the one published on the site mentioned above. The 2SJ109 is hard to come by; it can be replaced by 2 thermally coupled 2SJ74.
A Japanese circuit designer ran a simulation on this amp as well:
wiki . livedoor . jp / funya2420 / d / Hybridamp (remove blanks). The results are in agreement with mine.

Sorry, I have 5 postings now but I have not been registered for >3 days --- still not permitted to post links...
I asked Nick if he would be willing to post the 2 links mentioned above.

Here are the links for the above

The restrictions are a pain at the start, but they do a good job of keeping us mainly spam free.
Little known fact, coherent thought can destructively interfere with itself leaving no thought at all, that’s why I prefer incoherent thought.
