Super pendant mode. There are no tracks, just a series of pits in a spiral pattern, nothing that joins them together into a track.

I didn't even know they were spiral! I assumed when it got to the 'end' of one track (row of dots) it jumped to the next one (row of dots further over).

I can still remember from primary school when the teacher asked us how many grooves were on a long playing record.

The first DVD rom I tried had a vibration, so it was replaced by another spare one.
Today, I have stripped down the vibrating one to see if it could be made into a top loader.
Interestingly, on this one (a Toshiba) the CD platform is magnetic and the plastic puck has a metal piece to hold it firm.
Later on I will try it in the DIY player and see if it will work without all the "gubbins".

Cost !
With the DVD rom I can't get it to work properly with all the bits missing. But, seeing how it all works, I wouldn't expect an improvement. If they all have the magnetic puck arrangement then that is possibly one reason why the prototype sounded quite good.
Perhaps listening to a TDA1541 DAC recently has made me realise how different DACs can sound.
I tried my Yamaha CDX810 CD player on it's internal DAC on my computer system and it sounded "brash". Going back to the Shek DAC with it's improved PSU and it was more refined, but certainly not bland. Much better in that system.
I will carry on with the CD75 experiments.
Oh, and I now have another DAC to assemble and evaluate.
