Andrew, can I ask what version of the RAKK are you using?

Oooo, yeah, ta Phil. Could be a go-er.

If MrI doesn't want the other I'll buy them both off you. Always handy for the parts box(es).

Those chokes can be got from Bluebell, but not normally a stock item.

I'm not desperate to sell, but if anyone else is interested I also have two used ones.

Well if you are going to get all sniffy over my suggestion of the LM317.... :D
Then you could go upmarket for more money and use an ALW super regulator and put the icing on with a Gyrator (cap multiplier) as the pre-regulator...
Did Andrew mean 12V & 5V reg chips? LM317 not very different, just adjustable so will do both :D

Is the Wall Wart SMPS or transformer?

A quick trawl around the Squeezebox forum comes up with this post.

and the cct is here...

Dont like that cct.

See no reason to put the regulator after the choke, all you will end up doing is hearing the effect of the regulator. It may seem odd but I'd put the choke after the regulator, its only there to stop the voltage rising above 5v.

The choke after the regulator will knacker the regulation but it will draw power smoothly (may need to lower the value of the cap after the rectifier) and you can experiment with choke input or output cap types and values.

Oh! and the last thing you want on the output of a 3 pin regulator is a thumping great big low ESR cap!

just swapping back from USB to Wi-Fi connection to PC and it won't re-scan - oh deep joy so, while I'm typing this I thought, 'nowt to lose, I'm going for the latest download!'

Let's see eh.

Oh how we love probems and difficulties.

Well guess what! I've installed 7.7.0 and guess what I had previously .... 7.7.0 - yeah really.

So that's good isn't it.

I'm trying to rescan my P.C. hard drive.
