here's a thing:

just discovered a feature of SB3, or at least a feature on mine.......

after getting back from eggborough I set the 2a3/MA Alpair10 system up in my normal music room.......I was disillusioned about the lack of sparkle so swapped out the Alpair monitors for a pair of fostex cabs, which brought back half the sparkle.....

because it was only half sparkle(or so I thought) I did some testing....produced some 16bit 44k mono test files from 1k to 12khz.....loaded them to the music server and played them back through the system......

couldn't hear anything past 5k......oh waily waily

played them back through the the netbook with foobar(connected to the server via the home network in exactly the same way the SB is connected) and could play all the files....mmmmm

spent all day with the SB and the amp connected to the sig gen and scope...couldn't find anything wrong.....scratched head for a good while and suddenly decided to redo the test files in stereo

waddyaknow.....played back all files on SB3 perfectly......

conclusion....my SB3(and maybe yours too) can't play mono waves above 5khz....

and MA Alpair10 in reflex box is no match for fe167 in acoustic labyrinth in my set up.

You still running the Buffalo, Ed ?
The problem might be with the version of SlimServer you're using.
We're on SqueezeBox Server 7.5 now

Hi Chris

If the buffalo were at fault the netbook wouldn't be able to play the files.........would it?

I didn't say there was a problem with the files.
There is a possibility that there was/is an issue with Slimserver.

ah I see your point....I'll run another server with a later version and see if it's still an issue.
