Whats taking the beating?

we use neutric plugs at work, some of them get plugged/unplugged maybe 30 times a day, 5 days a week and they seem no worse for wear even after a few years of this treatment.

Suppose they're not Neutrik :D

Also the "set-up" is a bodge, was never meant to be permanent

These things never are

I can recomend the neutric plugs though, very nice.
Pitty there so expensive.

I also like the way earth always connects first and disconects last.

No nasty noises when unplugging while switched on.

Just reviving this thread as I now have a need to build an input selector, what is the panels thinking on relays vs switches vs light sabers etc?

It will eventually need to be remote controllable, so thats sending me down the relay route, or a selector switch with a stepper motor...

Cheers

Thanks for them Phil,

They are part way there for what I want, but I'm going to home-brew my own as it will eventually end up being controlled by my Pi, plus I only want an input selector, volume control is elsewhere.

The question was really following on from earlier in the thread about the best form of relay, or contacts, to use.

The engineer in my likes Graeme's idea of mercury tilt switches, it would give me an excuse to 'borrow' my sons lego mindstorm kit and make a prototype out of lego actuators...and a final version from laser cut perspex with pneumatic actuators...

Sorry Simon, but I'm not in the Kent massif.

It's true that I do associate with them though.

VTL5C4are ideal but very expensive. Two per selection at £7 or more each.

But off ohms is great at 400 Meg.

Others with 50 Meg don't cost any less, like VTL5C1.

But it is a very expensive approach £14 per input just for this element. you could use relays though to switch the power source to each pair. So only one power source required. Could adapt the ebay remote switcher Phil linked.

Probably worth looking at mercury switches.

I was thinking you could mount two pairs on opposite orientation and just rorate to selct one channel or the other channel, as one switches on other switches off. Cheap item. Mount the rocker on the top you could poke it with a stick  Orientate pairs at 120 degrees you may get three source selections. For me 3 sources would do. Clever people could shift it with a stepper motor.
