Damn shame, that.
The world looks so different after learning science. For example, trees are made of air, primarily. When they are burned, they go back to air, and in their flaming heat is released the flaming heat of the Sun which was bound in to convert air into tree.

Yes, it is a shame, we all owe WD a lot in many ways. I can't help commenting though that regarding your potential customer base as "Geeks" may not have been the healthiest position to take.
If Richard or John do want to continue the forum, I have spare web space here if they want to move, they are more than welcome. (I will send that message to them).

Other than a bit of setup its no real hardship for me, so hardly a offer of free beer for life. I have something like 90Gb of space and about 350Gb a month of traffic left so its no hassle.

A great shame, yes, a lot of us met via WD and it is a shame they have gone. Very generous offer Nick, it would be nice to see the forum continue but I suspect without the stimulation of product it will die a natural death unfortunately....

Pity about WD going. Without that website I'd have never have got to have known you lot and filled the house up with amps on lumps of wood and speakers the size of wardrobes.

The realities of trying to get stuff made in Europe.
Coupled with the general decline in DIY electronics and hobbyists.
That's what killed off Maplin kits. Well the latter part. 10 years ago?

I know how difficult it is getting stuff made in the UK, Morite who used to wind the later WD amp transformer sets where bought out and trying to get the new company to just respond is a PIA....really really poor customer service and this is for transformers I had made not WD...

I have been here but a short while but in that time with DTB's help and advice from people here resurrected my valve amps and purchased and built a switcher from WD so I'll be sorry to see them go.
If another party does take over the business it mightn't be a bad idea to dedicate at least a little time to marketing as prior to joining this forum I'd never heard of them.
