I've just realised that one of the other questions (100 in total) has the answer of MALI, so that makes me even more certain of BALI. :)

I'm looking at a chum's Cambridge Audio amp, reported fault was sparks when the speaker leads touched!

I've found about 12 to 17V DC across the lhd speaker terminals, gut feeling is one channel of the LM4766T output device has popped. Has anyone here had an LMxxxx device produce this scenario? I'm working on it using a resistive dummy load as I don't fancy frying my bench test speakers.

Probably the LM, but check the supply rails, I have seen that if only one half is powered.

Ta, rails ok as the other channel still works.

DIET. I'll check again, might be a rail fault on just the one channel after thinking about it. Erks. I'm getting rusty.

^^^^ Shurrups you's lot

I've only been retired 2 months and don't want to stop using/lose my fault finding skills, little jobs like this might help stop me from getting fully seized!

I know, I know, I mean.... I look so incredibly young with my boyish good looks and all that....but, yep, I'm trying this retirement malarky. I really like it so far.

If anything interesting came along though. Well. Y'know :)
