Due to limitations of my current output trans I run at 730v 140ma which is around 40-50W output.
You know, thats a nice place to work at, not high enough voltage to start making things hard, not excessivly high current, and a goodly amount of power.

Sure is Nick,
I have the neccesary hardware to go upto 4.3kv, but 730V in reality works really well. But you know us sort, if we don't try it we will always be unsure if we should have done. Just incase it was better.
I only really lack the rated cable. But I would also like to see the valves properly mounted as well. Maybe at a later date eh?? Maybe?

What really shines through is the bass. Previously I used an active crossover to send the sub 44Khz to a high power SS amp to get enough power.
At the mo I'm not using the pre. I may go back to it to tame the bass output. Not make it in anyway better just tame it. Quite the opposite issue...
Shows me one thing though, I'm getting plenty of power to let the bass freq breathe.

What I want' to know is why we always end up doing this stuff in the summer.

Winter should be 212, GM70 and now 833's, summer should be 45's and the like.
You're telling me, in this heat you really notice it when the 833s are on....

At least the misus won't complain in the winter then :D

Had an afternoon with Len today listening to the 833s.

It took everything we threw at it including the sqwarky Joni Mitchel "Blue" with ease. We couldn't find anything to unbalance it...

Len was quite taken by it stating that it easily beats both his 211 amps by far.
As for normal valves in single ended they don't come close. And I believe my PX4 amps are so sweet but the 833 is also sweet with guts.

Enjoyable afternoon, think it's time to case this lump up.
First step, to machine some top caps. Brass finned I think. Then to make some bases.

Looking forward to building this one to a complete finish.

I have what I feel is a tremendous sound (like a live performance) with OBs and 300Bs but I feel ashamed and inadequate!

Unworthy too.

It actually sounded the same as my 212 amp at the time but a little louder and very distracting. The amount of white light given off is unusual in a listening room.

It would be fun though wouldn't it?

Josh who's amp that is/was? had made some strange sheet metal horns, which it's a bit hard to describe, I don't think there are any pictures of those on the web. They were surprisingly good actually.

But the combination of gm100 and metal horns was not as good as.............Image
