Tell Julie the Bass that there's a nice double album collection of Cat's early stuff which has some great tracks, including 'first cut is the deepest' : 'View from the Top' (Deram) . Bit pricey, it's a £30 item unless you hit lucky .
I'm having fun with a unipivot currently - got a Mayware formula 4 off EBay last week . Sounds v.nice, very fluid, treble more refined than the OL . Needs an extra counterweight to help out with extra mass - will sort this soon . The Decca looks more substantial .
Mark
Thanks Mark, Just mentioned the Deram double to JTB and she wants it, there's a couple floating about on the 'bay I'll keep my eye on.
Yes, the metal Decca is very solid compared to the plastic variant. I'm very pleased with the way the Nekkid 103 and the arm are working together now. Bass was a tad light to start off with as the 103 was brand new but it's filling out nicely now. I'm going to let it settle down for few weeks then fettle it further once I've got the new sound logged in my head.

November 2006, it was a Birfday pressie from JTB. It has been used almost every night through Spring Autumn and Winter and most Weekends too. Vinyl is the main source for Mr + Mrs Bass.
I've never 'dinged' it and Julie says she hasn't either. I didn't realise they wore out that quickly but at least they're cheap (for a MC).
Treat yerself anyway Andrew, you'll always have a back up/reference that way. I've learn't my lesson there
Here's my latest toy .
The brass weight at the back is a custom addition . This is a really nice arm now , very impressed . Cartridge is a 103R , deck is the Nottingham Hyperspace .
Low-res shot just to give you an idea .

Pwwwwoaaaaaaarrrr, nice looking TT Mark, I like that sliding weight that the Maywares have to alter mass. I've got an old Lenco weight that I could fashion onto the Decca to do that.
I'm sure I need more mass at the headshell, I'm sawing a brick in half
Whats on the TT mark? It's a pinky but I can't quite make out from the piccie.
On the deck ? - that's Traffic 'Traffic' from 1968 . A classic of the label . You need one Dave !
I'm a big fan of unipivots now. I always expected I would be .
The eventual plan is the homebuilt unipivot made from oiled ebony, for plenty of mass and low resonance . Now I have the Mayware I have a better idea how the geometry works, and some small details . Not that it will be quick or anything
The weight on the Mayware is a good thing . Amongst other things it kills the main arm-tube vibration mode by damping it somewhere near the middle . This arm has the least needle-talk of any arm I've used, if you listen with the amps turned off .
I listened to 'Go Easy' from John's 'Bless the Weather' last night and it was COSMIC .

That LP has miles to run Dave .
Keep a check on it in the last few minutes . It's not in great condition, but it's probably make over £250, maybe a lot more . A really nice one went for £1080 recently .
Look out for pink rim ones though .
Have you heard Blodwyn Pig 'Ahead Rings Out' ? - that's another great pink one from approx '68 . Well worth searching out .

Maybe all the bidders will drop out and then I'll get a 59th chance offer for £3.41 Maybe I should just look out for a pink rim as ye say, more realistic.
I liked MIck Abrahams work in Early Jethro Tull but haven't heard any of the Blodwyn Pig stuff.
I've managed to buy 2 Simply Vinyl re-issues this week of ND's, Five Leaves left and Bryter Layter. Just Pink Moon to go.
Much more realistically priced
Decca update, listened to loads this weekend, John Martyn pink rim copys of Inside out and Sundays Child... bleedin' awesome. JTB been listening to Paul Weller and Peter Gabriel CD's all afternoon whilst studying....lame in comparison.
How's that wobbly arm sounding then Dave ?
Any good discs to report this week ?
I got a copy of 'The Notorious Byrd Brothers' and it's a very mellow and tonally rich thing to enjoy .
