#1 Help! O-Netics

Post by andrew Ivimey »

I keep reading Bud Purvine and O-Netics so I googled for about half an hour (and found some of you out there!) but no Bud and no O.

Is there a website? Is this a closely guarded secret and I have several levels of appallingly painful and embarrassing initiations I have to go through etc etc?

Nick has provided the right E-mail
No website.
Bud is a little slow to reply some times.
Perservere though - well worth it , he's a nice guy and his stuff is excellent .

Thanks Nick and Mark. I emailed Mr Purvine a couple of days ago. We'll see but I'd hate to have to buy Lundahls!

Mr Purvine has replied usefully and comprehensively.

Amity, here I come.

In the meantime I have been building the PushPull version of the Bottleheads SEX amp. I used 6FJ7s simply because they look different to 6DN7. Input transformer / splitter and outputs are tiny 10k Hammonds. I am astonished at how good the amplifer sounds. (still, after a week of listening). I have been played loads of goldenoldies; this is a good sign!

Sells stuff

Thinks: "oh, I have some cash, I should spend it on this hobby before I spend it on other stuff like living, and bills."

What with push-pulls, OTLs and great big 6C33 regulated 6C33s the next couple of meets should be very interesting.

I for one am glad our interests are widening. There was a danger of things becoming a little predictable.

Not any more. I like it!

When was that then?

You must be thinking of some other place.

Between EggFest 4 and the huge explosion of different O/B speaker designs
It all went a bit quiet. It was only for a short while but there seemed to be a bit of a regrouping and a lot of us have started to openly explore other stuff outside of the SET arena including (horrors) SESS (Ed)

We might all end up back there but it'll be fun.

It is only the impression I got from on the WD forum No offence intended. :)

No offence taken :-).

I spent the time you mention working out how to understand and build regulators. And working on Colins GM70 amp.

I have already said why I have not posted much about it on the WD forum, but there have been a lot of emails.

I still haven't got past SETs yet, there is still a lot to learn there before trying PP, they look far too hard :-)

I have never got into 'sperimenting with phonos yet.
:)
Still, O-Netics metal is ordered. I have the chassis, the valves, bits and bobs on order and to come so it won't be long before I get drilling cutting filing and inevitably... bleeding.

Mr Purvine suggests that 'Amity' is the way to go.

Sounds like a nice chunky project to get your teeth into :-).
